Japan Day 1 (ichi)

MONDAY

We've got a nice 3 bedroom apartment in the Roppongi area of Tokyo, which is a very upscale area. On our way to the nearest subway station we pass the Russian embassy, the Tokyo American club, and an Astin-Martin dealership. Here's a few of shots of the inside of our apartment:

This became the babies' room after we had the front desk move the crib here from the slightly larger room that we now occupy.

Want to microwave something? Good luck! This is actually a combo microwave/toaster oven, pretty cool huh? The top button on the left is for the microwave, isn't that obvious?

On our first day out into the wilds of Tokyo, we decided to venture over to Akihabara to get that router that we needed. This was to be our first Tokyo Metro ride, and first attempt to take a baby, a two year old, and a big ass stroller through the throngs of Japanese going about their daily lives.

Here's a familiar movie poster down in the subway:

Oh, let me take a minute to curse the engineers that decided not to put elevators at every subway station. Carrying a baby stoller down the stairs with a baby in it is not fun. Not even in the pouring rain. Oh, and Juan, in Tokyo you go up stairs and escalators on the left hand side. Usually they even paint little arrows to let you know.

We finally made it out into the Akihabara neighborhood and stopped in at a little place to grab some lunch. The kids started getting a little cranky, as to them this still seemed like the middle of the night due to jet lag. Once it became obvious that we were going to have a 4 alarm meltdown with two cranky babies, we decided to head back home. Mission aborted for now. The pouring rain didn't help anyone's attitude either :)

Here's the view outside our apartment of the Roppongi Hills upscale mall area. The bottom 6 floors of the Mori tower (that big one in the middle) are a fancy mall.

One of our last shots for today is a view out our bedroom window of the Tokyo Tower.

An finally, too exhausted to venture out some more tonight, we ordered some sushi.

Of my many trips to Japan, it was rare for me to see strollers on the trains and subways...now I know why...=D

You found Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Tower...

Let me know when you find the Statue of Liberty...because there is one in Tokyo...=P
